Halloween of years gone bye.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN Everyone!

Yes it is that time of year that we think back on fond times as a kid on Halloween.  In the stores, for a few weeks now, there has been an array of different costumes. Adult,  all sizes and styles. Children of all ages and sizes too. I have even seen some for the wee little ones. Devils, witches, bats and kitty cats.  Batman and super heroes. Bar maids, ghouls and ghosts.  These are what are out there now.

But when we were much younger there was not as many super heroes. Superman and the Green Hornet and the Invisible man were just a few.  Then we had Casper the friendly ghost and Wendy the little girl witch.  We had clowns and fairies and peter pan. Panda bears, cats and horses.

We would carve the Jack o lanterns out on the kitchen table and make them look so mean.  We saved the seeds to grow pumpkins for next Fall. After eating dinner we would get ready for the Tricks and Treats fun. We could go out after dark only if our Dad or Mother went with us. Oh and only in our neighborhood. We even made our own bags to go out with.

Mon and Dad would go thru all of our candy and make sure it was all wrapped or made of something the neighbours told them they were giving.  Sometimes we would get money like a dime or a nickel. We were really lucky if we got a coin and a candy bar.  Candy, caramel apples, hand pulled taffy and popcorn balls. Now that is what we got. Maybe even some of Mrs Ds fudge or popcorn balls.  Mrs Brown gave home made cookies.

After wards there was a movie to go to at a friends house. With hot witches brew and broom straws ( cheese sticks).  We would all sit in a ring side seat for the movie and after that it was time to go home and get ready for bed.  Many of us did fall asleep right away that night.  To much candy and was that a bat at the window?

So this year while you are sitting on your sofa with a hot cider in your hands waiting for that first Trick or  Treater remember your own time as one of the kids.  Someone once told me I could write a book and sell it fast just  by remembering times gone by.  Maybe you should keep a book on all those time that are going bye so fast.

                                         Happy Halloween My Friends!
